Why we love LEE Industries
LEE is Green
One of the reasons we love LEE so much is that their concern for the environment is nearly unparalleled in the furniture manufacturing industry. They use low VOC finishes and wood from sustainably managed forest in all of their products, and even 80% of the metal components in their 8-way hand-tied springs are from recycled materials. Their standard cushioning is from a soy-based foam and is wrapped in fibers that come from recycled plastic bottles. In addition, the down-proof ticking doesn’t use flame-retardants (a growing body of evidence shows that many of these chemicals are associated with adverse health effects in animals and humans, including endocrine and thyroid disruption, impacts to the immune system, reproductive toxicity, cancer, and adverse effects on fetal and child development and neurologic function).
LEE loves local
LEE has a steadfast belief that, by hiring and nurturing their local workforce, they can create tighter knit communities where everyone benefits. Since 1969, they have been producing materials and manufacturing their products almost exclusively in North Carolina. From a modest start, with 10 employees in one building, LEE now employs more than 670 people in four manufacturing facilities. Despite having a global supply network, 98% of the components in their products are also supplied domestically. Having local suppliers for everything from the frames and foam to springs, cotton ticking, decking, fabrics, and packaging means local employment and reduced transportation costs and CO2 emissions.
This commitment to healthy local communities has lead them to establish "LEE Loves Local", a program that supports local retail partners and brick-and-mortar stores.
