We have just returned from another whirlwind visit to High Point Market and, while we were pleased to see some of our favorite looks are still going strong, there were some new fresh looks that captured our attention. Read on for a few of our favorites from this Spring's collections.
Color was everywhere! Green still reigned supreme but was complimented by a garden palette of peaches, pinks and mauves. On the neutral end of the spectrum, there were some exciting new black and white patterns that we saw being used to great effect in wall art, fabric and ceramics; with many of them having a decidedly hand-crafted appearance, which took what could have been a too stark contrast into something more approachable.
Also playing a more prevalent role was the use of more textural, lighter-weight fabrics as a compliment to the coming warmer months. Linens, as well as jute, water hyacinth and rattan, made strong showings in several vendor booths and were a refreshing change to the heavy velvets so prevalent in winter.
While there was a continued strong focus on midcentury modern, we also spotted several pieces that were heavily influenced by the Art Deco movement. These were used with great success in the many higher backed upholstered pieces, Greek Key motifs on rugs and table-tops as well as the use of shagreen and curved forms for accent tables. Several of these pieces could have stepped spryly from an episode of Hercule Poirot, and some of the vignettes were as neatly put together as the man himself.
